Hand Me Downs

Do you know whats better than a pair of Frye boots? A pair of FREE Frye boots. These babies were my dads and when I went home at Christmas I told him about how I was looking at a few pairs. One day he came downstairs all excited and showed me these. He was so nice and cute about it and told me they just needed a good cleaning and I could have them. In all honesty I wasn't too thrilled about them at first. But after a couple wears they fit perfect and started to grow on me and I knew I could make them work. They were pretty unique in color and I loved that they were 30 or so years old. Sometimes its fun to have a statement piece and plan the rest of your outfit around it. I tend to do this a lot with shoes and I did that with these boots. I love vintage hand me down clothes. My grandmother has given me some old belts and costume jewelry and its so fun to wear. Just because something is old doesn't mean you can't give it new life! It inspired me to look through some of my old things and if you live near your parents, grandparents, etc maybe they have some old things they don't wear anymore and they wouldn't mind parting with. Even if initially you don't like it you would be surprised with what you can do with something. Don't let the fact that it belonged to a guy stop you either. Have an open mind here! I bet you guys will come up with some awesome ways to wear old pieces. Clothes and pieces from the past usually come back into style anyway.

Oh also, this jacket is the best thing ever. I got it at Forever 21 for 40% off! All their outerwear is on sale right now and they have some way cute stuff. Its super comfy and I love the way I feel in it.
Jacket: Forever 21 in select stores similar here Jeans: Abercrombie and Fitch Oxford shirt: J. Crew Factory Chain Link Necklace: Forever 21 you can barely see similar here or for something cheaper maybe check your local H&M as well Gold Paved Bracelet: similar here and it comes in many colors OR you could type in gold paved bracelet in on Ebay and get it for $20 like I did! Frye Boots: Old similar was hard to find but heres one based off color not style here
If you all find anything cool going through some old stuff I would love to hear about it! Or you could try some thrift stores or flea markets, they actually have some cool pieces! I wish we had some good ones out here, Maryland has a lot of good ones!

Mustard

Mustard yellow is one of my favorite colors to wear. I have no idea why...but it is.
I think anyone who has dark hair should wear it all the time. P.S. ignore all the squinting, it was super bright when we took these a few weeks ago!
I love this casual outfit, especially my "Katniss boots" as I like to call them. I feel like such a bad A when I wear these, they especially look cute paired with camo or army green. They are definitely one of my favorite pairs of boots and they aren't even name brand, so they are pretty cheap! Gotta love that I've been going through my clothes and either selling them or getting rid of them since I've lost some weight. This blue button was in the get rid of pile because its gotten pretty big but then I still liked it, so I had to make it work. Layering is always the way to go if something is a little big- it's easy to make it work with belts, long necklaces, vests or cardigans. I paired one of my cardigans and a flowery belt to make this outfit a little girly. I've actually tried this look with a couple bigger shirts and don't ask me why but I like to wear some of Lyle's big shirts and it's not hard to make those sexy with the right accessories. Don't be afraid to wear stuff a little bit or borrow things. One tip when I go shopping: I actually shop in the boys or little boys sometimes, shhh...you just have to look at the clothing because in many cases, I've removed things or added things and then you have a unique piece. I'll show you some examples of pieces I've done it with coming up! On a side note I kind of feel like a teacher in this...which is funny because I'm sure a teacher couldn't wear this...well maybe with dress slacks and different shoes? Anyway if you're getting sick of all the casual outfits I have lots of cute new date night outfits coming up because Lyle finally comes home this week and I get to wear them!!
Boots: ForeverYoung (University Mall, Provo) but similar- steal or splurge Belt: Abercrombie similar here or here Blue Striped Oxford: Forever 21 similar here Mustard Cardigan: Forever 21 similar here
Do you know what I would honestly do for the belt though? I would buy a thin brown one like maybe forever 21 and then go to the craft store and pick out a flower I like or if you're really craft you can get material and easily make one (I do them for headbands all the time) and hot glue them on. Btw if you all don't have a hot glue gun you should invest in one, you can get them for $5.00 at some craft stores and in cute patterns too and mine saves my life! Anyway, I know it works because Murphy actually pulled one of these flowers off and I had to fix it....Don't be afraid to think outside of the box!

All about the booties

I love casual comfy outfits and this one tops my new favorite list. Everyone always acts surprised that I wear "heels"all the time but these are amazing. I got them real cheap in New York at a place called Strawberry over Winter break but I found them at Charlottes Russe too. They have them in other colors too. They look like a pair of Aldo knockoffs I initially wanted! I love them. The necklace and boat shirt in this color may still be at your local J Crew Factory but they aren't online at the moment. The necklace is to die for! I have had my eye on it for a while. It goes with absolutely everything and I get so many compliments. I love it.  The vest was a perfect touch to this simple yet comfy shirt and I wear it with a lot of things. I thought it dressed it up just a bit. I loved the little bit of sunshine I got when I wore this outfit and I cant wait for Spring and Summer!
Top: JCrew Top Vest: Abercrombie old similar here Booties: Strawberry in NYC but exact same ones here Necklace: J crew Factory same here Jeans: Abercrombie and Fitch
Enjoy your weekend!!

denim and plaid.

Welcome to Utah, where it is pretty much always snowy. Or at least it seems like it- so boots and layering are always in. Most of you know my obsession with hunters but they are seriously amazing. Comfy, cute and practical. My denim jacket is also one of my new favorites. I was kind of concerned with how it would look with the plaid but I'm happy with how it turned out! Layering is so fun to play around with and don't be afraid to try anything! Try adding a scarf or a big statement necklace or even another layer in between- especially if its cold! You don't have to stay with one style- wear what you like- I always do. Next outfit switches it up to a date night! So check back soon!!
